This guide covers day hikes, not overnight backpacking or mountaineering. The right pack must fit your body and hold your route-specific essentials comfortably.

Load the pack before judging the fit
Bring the water, layers, food and equipment appropriate to your planned route. Adjust the torso and straps, then walk and bend to check that the bag stays stable without restricting movement.
The linked Talon is a men’s-fit model. Compare other harness fits in person rather than choosing by the volume printed on the label. If the harness does not suit you, a favourable specification sheet does not fix that.
Know when this shortlist is too small
A winter route, group equipment or an overnight sleep system can require more space. Do not compress essential gear into a daypack simply to stay with a recommendation here. Choose the required equipment first, then assess volume and carrying support.
A heavy tactical bag is not automatically a better hiking choice. Assess whether its access, attachment points and carrying system solve a real need before accepting the additional empty weight.

Is the Talon 22 suitable for overnight backpacking?

Is the Farpoint 40 a hiking alternative?
