Bring the heaviest normal day’s load
Test with the books, computer, charger, lunch and water you actually carry. Walk with the bag and check pressure at the shoulders. If you routinely carry sports equipment too, include it rather than assuming it will fit later.
Measure your computer with its case. A bag described as suitable for students may still lack a padded compartment, and a capacity in litres does not tell you whether your device fits.
